I am a resident in the block of flats which is situated at 17 Newport Street located on the corner of Whitgift and Newport streets - about 500 meters from 145 Newport street.
Our building and our homes have been the victims of numerous break-ins and vandalism since the bulding's completion.
I have serious concerns that if a night club were to take up residence so close to us here at 17 Newport Street, the resulting traffic (pedestrian and otherwise) would increase the likelyhood of our homes being burgled and vandalised.
In addition, we can currently hear the noises being generated by the existing businesses in arches 135-138 and 140-144 on Newport Street which are bothersome and sometimes sleep-disturbing. We do not need (nor want) more noise added to this which is likely to occur from the activities planned in arch 145 and the associated foot and vehicle traffice it will likely generate.

145 and 17 Newport Street are less than 50 (fifty) metres apart - my sympathies.
The Worrying thing would be if this club is 'modelled' on those near Vauxhall station where the noise and litter levels are considerable on the street.
Incidentally, I am a resident on Lollard Street and recieved no notification of this development.
Lastly, I wonder whether the announcement of traffic calming measures on Newport Street is linked to this development.

Gregg, I think you meant 20mtrs, we are almost opposite the 145 Arch.
I am also at 17 Newport St, it seems a shame that the work being done by the Friends of the Park to gentrify the area and make it more pleasant will be rather undone by the granting of this licence.
I suspect we in Newport St residences will get the traffic noise but the council buildings across the park will get the music and patron noise, as the application states the outdoors area (bordering the park) will be used as a smoking area. I don't think you can isolate this.
Please also note, I believe that the applicants are meant to place a notification up on the building. There seems to have been a disregard for this notification, the 1st I saw this sign was this weekend where it was lying in the gutter in Newport St. It was stuck up with tape for 5 minutes and has disappeared again.

There is a planning application to change the use of the arch to a community events venue. I suspect it was put in before the licensing application. The planning application is less critical but I've put in an objection to Planning on the basis that the pavement outside isn't suitable, as the Licensing Committee agreed.
