Community coffee morning announced

The Prince's Labour Action Team are delighted to announce a community coffee morning, open to all residents, which will take place on Saturday 17 January, from 11am to 12:30pm.

It will be a chance for residents to meet their neighbours and local councillors, and to discuss issues affecting the area.

It will be held at St Anselm's Church Hall, at Kennington Cross. St Anselm's is at the junction of Kennington Road and Kennington Lane, and the Church Hall is on the left hand side of the Church.

We hope to see many residents there.

Calendars delivered across the ward

Over the next week every home in Prince's ward will be receiving a 2009 calendar from Labour activists.

As well as a calendar for the coming year, it contains useful numbers for local services, and contact details for local Labour politicians.

It's a great opportunity to let people know that the Labour team are available to help with problems and issues all year round, and to remind everyone of our contact details.

Swimming pool for old Lilian Baylis site!

Lilian Baylis (Old School) will host an indoor temporary swimming pool from 6 January to 15 February 2009, the first of it’s kind in London. This pool will be 12 metres by 10 metres and 0.9 metres in depth (similar to a leisure centre teaching pool) and will be available for local schools to access FREE of charge. It is anticipated that 1000 local school children will benefit from being able to access swimming locally for many of whom it will be their first visit to a pool.

Christmas at Vauxhall City Farm

Vauxhall City Farm - the much-loved community farm that gives local people a chance to meet ponies, pigs, cows and sheep - is holding a special Christmas open day on Saturday 20 December.

Between 11:30am and 4:30pm the farm will host Christmas activities, stalls, refreshments and Santa's grotto. Come along to the farm's entrance on Tyers Street, next to Spring Gardens, to enjoy the fun!

Christmas comes to Lambeth- but Lib Dems try to ban it again!

It seems the Lib Dems haven't learned their lesson from 2005 - back when they made Lambeth an international laughing stock by attempting to rename Christmas lights as 'Winter lights'.

This year Labour have insisted on proper Christmas celebrations for residents across the borough. A German Christmas market has been set up on the South Bank, and on 3 December Father Christmas travelled from Waterloo to Streatham on a motorised Christmas sleigh, turning on Christmas lights in each town centre.

The events have been a huge success - but that hasn't stopped Lib Dem councillors kicking up a fuss. One councillor has been campaigning to shut down the market, whilst others tried to ban the Christmas sleigh! It seems the Lib Dems just refuse to enter into the festive spirit!
